Italy’s National Windsurfer Activities Now Managed by Windsurfer Class Italia ASD

Following the agreement signed on 16 January 2026, the management of the Windsurfer Class national activities in Italy has been formally separated from the European structure and entrusted to a newly established association: Windsurfer Class Italia ASD.

This strategic decision represents an important step forward for the development of the Windsurfer Class, allowing both the European and Italian organisations to focus more effectively on their respective areas of responsibility, while continuing to cooperate in a coordinated and transparent framework.

Clear roles, shared vision
Under the new arrangement IWCA Europe ASD remains responsible for European coordination, including the unified membership system, personal sail numbers, and international calendars; Windsurfer Class Italia ASD is now the officially recognised National Class Association for Italy, with exclusive responsibility for Italian Championships and national regattas, Relations with the Italian Sailing Federation (FIV), National rankings, Support for Italian members.
At the same time, both organisations commit to close cooperation to ensure continuity, consistency, and growth of the Windsurfer Class across Europe and in Italy.

Continuity in leadership
The Board of Windsurfer Class Italia ASD is composed of the same members who were previously elected within the Italian structure of IWCA Europe.
This guarantees full continuity in leadership, experience, and strategic direction, ensuring a smooth transition with no disruption to ongoing activities or to the Italian sailing community.

President: Alessandro Torzoni.
Vice President / Secretary: Giorgio Spano.
Board Members: Vittorio Blardi, Maurizio Bufalini, Alberto Congiu, Bruna Ferracane, Michele Tocchetti.

Benefits for the whole Windsurfer community
The separation of operational responsibilities will improve administrative clarity, strengthen national development in Italy, allow IWCA Europe to focus more efficiently on European coordination, provide better services to sailors at both national and international levels.
